Editor vs. Designer

Understand the difference between the simple editing tools and the advanced design workspace.

Webflow provides two different tools for updating your website. It’s important to understand the difference so you always make changes in the correct place.

The Editor

Use the Editor for content-only updates.

You can:

  • Edit text
  • Replace images
  • Update links
  • Add or edit Collection items (publications, team members, news items, etc.)

The Editor is simple and safe — nothing you do here will affect the site’s structure or design.

The Designer

Use the Designer for layout or design changes.

You can:

  • Add new pages
  • Reorder or add sections
  • Adjust styles (fonts, colors, spacing, etc.)
  • Build or modify Components
  • Change page structure

The Designer is more advanced. Changes here affect the overall look and layout of your website.

Which One Should You Use?

  • Use the Editor for routine content updates.
  • Use the Designer only if you need to change structure or design.

How to Access the Editor

  1. On your Webflow Dashboard, find your site.
  2. Click the three dots under your project thumbnail.
  3. Select Editor from the menu.

How to Access the Designer

  • From the Dashboard, click anywhere on your project thumbnail to open the Designer.
