Editor vs. Designer

Understand the difference between the simple editing tools and the advanced design workspace.

Webflow has two main tools for making changes:

The Editor

  • For content updates only.
  • Edit text, swap images, update links, and manage collection items.
  • Simple and safe — you won’t affect the site’s layout or design.

The Designer

  • For structural or design changes.
  • Add new pages, reorder sections, adjust styles, or use components.
  • More advanced — changes affect the overall look and layout.

Which Should You Use?

  • Use the Editor for routine content updates.
  • Use the Designer if you need to adjust structure or design.

How to access the Editor

  1. Click on the three dots underneath your project in the dashboard.
  2. On the pop-up menu, click on "Editor".

How to access the Designer

To access the designer simply click anywhere on the project in your dashboard.
